The 911 GT2 RS is the most powerful road Porsche ever
Carrera GT? For cats. 959 certification? Keep that glorious ox cart for Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates. Porsche announced today that they have produced the fastest road rocket ever, the 911 GT2 RS-a real men's car, pushing 620 twin-turbocharged horses to the rear wheels. This monster would scare the sneer on Samuel Jackson’s face, the spurs on Clint Eastwood’s boots, and the mustache on Teddy Roosevelt’s upper lip.
The GT2 RS’s power is up 90hp from the previous 911 GT2 and the weight is down by 154 lbs. The car weighs in at a paltry 3,021 lbs. The car’s power to weight ratio comes in at a boner inspiring 4.9 lbs. per horsepower. Porsche is also keen to point out that the car’s CO2 emissions and fuel consumption rates are down roughly 5 percent from the previous 911 GT2. Very green.
All that power is channeled to the rear wheels through a traditional six-speed manual gearbox – you’ll find no plastic videogame paddle shifters on this brute, like we said, this is a true man’s car. Give the car some stick and it’ll tick off 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, 200 km/h in 9.8 seconds and will eventually reach a top speed of 330 km/h. Porsche has yet to release numbers on the GT2 RS’s stopping power but it’s safe bet that those figures will be equally as impressive as the car is equipped with the manufacturer’s ultra high performance “PCCB” ceramic composite brakes.
Porsche took a very Lotus approach towards the production of the GT2 RS’s chassis. Carbon fiber, of course, is utilized throughout: the front and rear wings, the bucket seats, the door cards, etc. Technology wise the car features Porsche’s “Adaptive Suspension Management” system as well as Porsche Stability Management System and dynamic motor mounts.
Porsche is calling the new GT2 RS the “absolute climax” of the 911 models. Climax is probably just the right word for it. The car lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in seven minutes and 18 seconds of tantric bliss. This makes the 997 Porsche GT2 RS the fourth fastest production car around the ‘Ring ever. Eat it, Godzilla.
GT2 RS will be on sale in the United States in October 2010. Limited production of 500 units.
